Why you should always hire an electrician…

I came across an article called “Have You Seen This? Why you should hire an electrician” and it peaked my interest. It is funny and it shows that us wives are always camera ready for a mistake.

“Thanks to Pinterest and HGTV we all think we’re expert DIY pros when it comes to our homes. Quite often we go into our projects with the confidence of a lion only to finish and feel as sheepish as, well, a lowly sheep. You should see the wood floors in my house. Let’s just say the elevation change in my living room is enough to give you altitude sickness. What all this is leading to is the fact that hiring a professional is sometimes the best choice, as this husband and wife duo found out.
This couple decided to make some upgrades to their bathroom, which included some lighting upgrades. While the husband did his absolute best to make sure to put the wiring back exactly as he found it, he found out that electricians got to school for a reason. Go ahead and watch the insanity ensue for yourself, but there is another commentary to be made here besides the merits of hiring a professional. That is the fact that wives consistently find their husbands hilarious and often for all the wrong reasons. As a husband myself, there have been oh so many times that my wife has laughed this hard at my “mistakes.” Anyway, give the video a gander and get a good chuckle as we all learn two valuable lessons: that sometimes we should trust in a professional and that wives will always laugh at husbands’ missteps in the most loving way possible.”

Mike Holmes Approves of Eaton Whole Home Surge Protection

Mike Holmes, contractor and host of the television show “Holmes on Homes,” and diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation, a global leader in electrical power management, today announced a collaboration to offer homeowners a line of “Holmes Approved” electrical surge protectors.

When installed on a home’s breaker box, Eaton’s surge products can help prevent or minimize damage to electronic devices, home appliances and other equipment in the event of electrical surges.

“People never think it could happen, but it happened to me,” said Mike Holmes. “A large electrical surge entered my house and I lost all my electronics that were plugged in. All of them. The first thing I did after replacing everything was install an Eaton Complete Home Surge protector.”

Mike Holmes is an advocate for homeowner and building safety. All projects and initiatives undertaken by the star contractor are defined by quality, integrity and trust. Eaton’s product innovation, superior customer service and commitment to doing business right makes the collaboration a logical next step.

“In an era of increasingly sophisticated and costly electronics and household appliances, homeowners have a lot on the line,” said Joanne Edwards, vice president and general manager, Eaton Corporation. “When a surge happens, their best defense is comprehensive surge protection.”

“I’ve been using these devices for years on the homes I work on,” added Holmes. “Don’t learn the hard way. It’s always better to prevent than replace.”

Eaton’s Complete Home Surge Protection Devices protect your home electronics from the damaging effects of electrical surges. They provide premium surge protection for AC power, telephone and cable at the point of entrance to the home. Protection at this location can reduce surges entering the home to an acceptable level for your home electronics and appliances.

Spending $425 on installing a whole home surge protector, could save you thousands and the hassle of dealing with your insurance company. At this time, we are offering a $50.00 off coupon on our Coupon Page, so technically it’s only $375! CLICK HERE to print this valuable coupon off.

St. Patrick’s Day

I have to admit, I forgot it was St. Patrick’s Day. I got up, got ready, got my son ready and headed to school to drop him off. THEN, I realized it was St. Patrick’s Day and I nor my son were wearing green. Whoops! As I was walking in his school I noticed his shoe strings were green, so saved by the bell on that one. 😀

I was wondering how St. Patrick’s Day came about and why we’re served green beer?

Saint Patrick was a 5th-century Christian missionary and bishop in Ireland. Every year on March 17, the Irish and the Irish-at-heart across the globe observe St. Patrick’s Day. What began as a religious feast day for the patron saint of Ireland has become an international festival celebrating Irish culture with parades, dancing, special foods and a whole lot of green.

*St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated on March 17th, the date of Saint Patrick’s death
*Saint Patrick real name was Maewyn Succat
*The first St. Patrick’s Day celebration was held in Boston, Ma in 1737
*Although depicted nowadays as wearing green, Saint Patricks vest were actually blue
*Saint Patrick used the Shamrock to explain Christianity’s “Holy Trinity”, Father Son & Holy Ghost
*It is believed that Saint Patrick established more than 300 churches and baptized more than 100,000 people

In case you didn’t know this blog is written by Whitney. So hi!!!

Yesterday I received a text with this picture and his caption “Now that is a generator”. Quick Tip of the day! Time To Start Spring Cleaning….

It’s getting warmer and I could not be more excited. I love the sun shining, opening windows, being outside and a lower power bill. 😉 This past weekend I started on my spring cleaning to do list and this morning I found this great article on home maintenance tips I hadn’t thought of yet from HGTV. Check this list out below!

10 Home Maintenance Tips for Spring Cleaning
**Check for loose or leaky gutters. Improper drainage can lead to water in the basement or crawl space. Make sure downspouts drain away from the foundation and are clear and free of debris.

**Low areas in the yard or next to the foundation should be filled with compacted soil. Spring rains can cause yard flooding, which can lead to foundation flooding and damage. Also, when water pools in these low areas in summer, it creates a breeding ground for insects.

**Use a screwdriver to probe the wood trim around windows, doors, railings and decks. Make repairs now before the spring rains do more damage to the exposed wood.

**From the ground, examine roof shingles to see if any were lost or damaged during winter. If your home has an older roof covering, you may want to start a budget for replacement. The summer sun can really damage roof shingles. Shingles that are cracked, buckled or loose or are missing granules need to be replaced. Flashing around plumbing vents, skylights and chimneys need to be checked and repaired by a qualified roofer.

**Examine the exterior of the chimney for signs of damage. Have the flue cleaned and inspected by a certified chimney sweep.

**Inspect concrete slabs for signs of cracks or movement. All exterior slabs except pool decks should drain away from the home’s foundation. Fill cracks with a concrete crack filler or silicone caulk. When weather permits, power-wash and then seal the concrete.

**Remove firewood stored near the home. Firewood should be stored at least 18 inches off the ground at least 2 feet from the structure.

**Check outside hose faucets for freeze damage. Turn the water on and place your thumb or finger over the opening. If you can stop the flow of water, it is likely the pipe inside the home is damaged and will need to be replaced. While you’re at it, check the garden hose for dry rot.

**Have a qualified heating and cooling contractor clean and service the outside unit of the air conditioning system. Clean coils operate more efficiently, and an annual service call will keep the system working at peak performance levels. Change interior filters on a regular basis.

**Check your gas- and battery-powered lawn equipment to make sure it is ready for summer use. Clean equipment and sharp cutting blades will make yard work easier.
